Emanuel (b. 1999) is a self-taught artist (like most others?) exploring art soups, a former environmental education NGO volunteer and a former CS college student.
Telling stories in different ways and with different tools is what I’m most interested in at the moment.
Brief personal outline
At the beginning of 2021, when I was studying CS at university and interning as a full stack developer at a local company in my city, I realized that I was bored, unhappy and that it wasn’t the path I wanted to follow. The idea/desire to work as an artist had already crossed my mind during my teenage years, but living in a relatively small town with a practically non-existent art scene and still unaware of the possibilities of digital art, this option was unthinkable (unless I liked the idea of living in a basement eating instant noodles and drinking soda).
Then, after a friend (a single one) who encouraged me and pointed out blockchain, web3 and NFTs and said that I should check them out because it seemed like a good option for “aimless renegades from all over the world who want to build a life in the creative/arts industries”. This advice was the trigger that made me “pivot” at the end of 2021 to pursue a creative career, which was what I was really interested in. Since then it’s been a fun journey, divided between “ok, I really want this” and “no, being an artist isn’t for me…”, which also made me take a long time to “expose myself publicly” and start working on artworks to be released, because I wanted to make sure that I really wanted this and that I wasn’t just chasing a shiny object influenced by the twitter feed.
It’s funny, looking back and remembering events like:
-
Drawing and watching movies were my favorite activities as a child. I lost count of how many times I watched the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy on DVD
-
When I was 11, I and a neighborhood friend who was a drawer tried to create our own comic book, him drawing and me writing characters. Which went wrong after he moved in with his family.
-
I thought about being a musician when I took my first acoustic guitar lessons when I was around 10 years old.
-
In high school, I used to skip class, get a projector and watch movies in the computer lab.
-
The thing I hated most about growing up in a small town was the lack of a local movie theater.
Recalling these and other things, it’s obvious that I should have made this decision earlier.
Hit me up on twitter with questions, constructive criticism of my work (helps a lot) or just to say “Hi” and make a friendship.
